Like I mentioned in another thread, some administrators are just in the foruming business to end up with a little bit of extra cash in their pocket. Yes, that's perfectly fine if you'd like to do that. However, I think sometimes it gets far too out of proportion.

I recently came across a forum that wanted me to pay real money to add a listing on their forum. The forum wasn't even that active. How insane is this owner?

This actually happens a lot more than we are aware of it. So have you ever come across a site like that?

A lot of the time it's about forums that offer Premium and it's not to help the forum out or anything. Not only is it "Pay 20 bucks a month for premium!" But you don't really get anything out of it for that price. You get a colored username and a larger PM box. I'm alright if it's donations and everything but not hounding users for their money.

I have to agree with Bob; as long as you aren't really begging for money, there's no problem with having premium ad spots and premium memberships Wink

Right. I agree with both, Darth and Bob.

We offer premium and paid advertising. It's there for everyone to see. But you won't see us refering to either one of those services. Pf course, unless someone asks.

But I think owners of forums are just way over their heads that do this.

I quite agree, overstepping their bounds is better way to put it though. IF I was having anything like this forces upon me I would leave quite quickly Delighted
