What do you think of regular newsletters? Does your site send newsletters to your members regularly? What do you think of its advantage and disadvantages?

I think having a regular newsletter is a good idea, but the period must be pretty long too. At least a month. It serves as a reminder for not-so-active members and to summarize what's been happening to the site too. The only bad thing is probably a member might feel bad and annoyed about it, but then again they can disable the option to not receive newsletters, no?

We would send out an email to users that haven't logged on for x weeks / months once in a while, but there was never and real "news" to add to it. I can see how it can get annoying, but you're right in how you could always disable receiving the emails.

I generally dislike newsletters. I only send mass mails where needed.
