Do you ever send out inactive notice emails? I think they're rather insulting and a waste in the worlds unlimited web space. I think I used to send them out, when I was just getting started with foruming, because it suggested that I do that. But I would not suggest this to any new owners.

I don't do this and I find it annoying sites that send me these emails when I've only been inactive a week. The only way I think that this would be viable were if you were saying you purge inactive accounts every year, and sending an email out two weeks beforehand saying I'm inactive and should login to prevent my account being deleted... Any other reason, I'll delete the email and likely forget about the site again.

I did this before too, then when it didn't bring my members back, I started to think back if I were in the position of my members. I imagined I would be rather annoyed, since there must be a reason for my inactivity. Plus if I really like the site I would stick around even if I'm busy. Based on that, I wouldn't do it again.
Sometimes I changed its form by sending newsletters to my members, updating them on new information they might like, hoping that it would bring them back. This one seems to work better than just "you are inactive, please log in or your account will be deleted" e-mail.

Don't really like them, and the ones which say your account will be deleted as well, is usually annoying.

I am not sure how forumotion works in this, I have gotten them before, and I really hope I am not accidentally sending those as I really dislike them. I don't even like the forum classifies members as inactive automatically...

I've gotten then before and don't particularly like them. Honestly, if I get one, I generally won't return to the forum. The only time I ever send them out is if the member has no posts and has only logged in like once. I suppose that may be a bit different, but still that will be the only time it happens.

I don't personally mind them, but yes they are a tad annoying. Especially when they send it multiple times.

annoying, not very helpful if you want your members to come back again maybe the way FM had sent an email for updates or something like FM's back or what not. that's waaaaaaaaaay better than sending 'you're inactive' emails. >.<

I just send out a massive PM or a newsletter to bring in more of the crowd. It helps draw back the community, in a polite fashion.

Only e-mail I send out is when some thing big is happening like a competition
mind you the last one I sent out was just before Chirstmas to wish all my members a Happy Christmas and New Year
I just delete any I get that say I have been inactive as I know the reason I have not been there is because I did not like their forum
