Forming a staff team on a forum is not an easy task to do. Wait, I take that back. Forming the right kind of staff team on a forum is not an easy task, by any means. Yeah, it is a very important part of the forum. Yeah, it is also one of the foundations of the forum. But, sometimes it does take going through a few people until you find the right one for you.

Of course, you do have to keep doing this until you've got a full teams worth. But, in the end you can tell how well they are doing, just based off of their performance.

One of my favorites (high sarcasm) that people will do is present such a great show like they are top of the line for that staff position. It's going great until you actually put them on your team and about a few weeks later, they're the most inactive person on the forum.

Only you can do it, right.

My favorite staff like yours are the ones who yell at other staff to be more active and have 10 posts and a week later have 20 posts.

It is not, at all.

At my forum you can say that I don't really staff in physical form; I need members who would stay contributive over a long period. It was a dynamic process, lots of people joined and left, but when you found the right person, it was awesome. I had them in my team now. How did I find it? I pushed my luck and advertised like crazy and observed members and talked to them. Not only in terms of skills, we also need to be close to the members so they wouldn't simply join us because they want the position, but also because they enjoy the site. More like, because "I want to work with you."~

I'd rather do without than hire the wrong people. Luckily Ive never really had a problem finding good staff members.

Currently, I have no staff members except for myself. I'm looking for staff, though I want it to be more voluntary, though it's hard to find someone who would do it for free and that is good at the same time.

Most people want a good position immediately or to work in a forum that is already active. :/

Anyway, I have always hired from inside and see how they have worked. :]
I agree it is not easy to find the right staff for you.
Even when you find them nothing can guarantee they will always be available. :(
